The Gate House by Nelson DeMille

Well, it has been a few days since my last post. I am going to shift my focus to my favorite author Nelson DeMille. For my 5 year anniversary, my wife bought me this latest DeMille novel. I have been wanting this book for a while. She bought it for me on Friday evening, and I am already 116 pages into it. I can't put it down.

It took me over a year to read its prequal The Gold Coast, but with this book I am not wanting to stop reading. The story thus far is what I expected it to be. I will ellaborte more after I finish reading it. That post may be a few weeks off, but I look forward to sharing my thoughts.

Thanks to my darling wife for buying me this. I love her very deeply and can't wait to spend many more years with her.

Dan Brown. Which is his best book?

Dan Brown has written four books. I have read three of them: The DaVinci Code, Angels & Deamons, and Deception Point. Which book is his best? This can be looked at from many different views.

Point one. Earnings. This would be a no brainer. The DaVinci Code would win this hands down. I really enjoyed The DaVinci Code. It was a page turner and I flew through this book. I have since read it three times. I love trying to find pieces of information that I have missed the other times I read the book. The DaVinci Code is one of my favorite books. The plot, the mystery, and the history in the book are all fascinating.

Point two. Excitement. I would have a close tie for all three books. If I had to choose one, I would choose Deception Point. This book was full of twists and turns and I had no clue that the story would wind up the way it did. It was mind blowing. I will not ruin the ending for those who haven't read it.

I enjoyed all three. The DaVinci Code is worth all the hype, but the other two should have received more than they received. Angels & Deamons is full of action as well. Once the reader gets past all of the scientific jargon in Switzerland, the novel picks up speed and is a wonderful read.

I get attached to characters and love to read all books about one character. For example, I have read all four novels Nelson Demille has written on John Corey, and the majority of the novels Brad Thor has written on Scot Harvath. Similarly, I really enjoy the character of the Harvard professor Robert Langdon. I love the intellect and thought that Dan Brown gave this character.

I saw on the internet the movie trailer for Angels & Deamons. I think it will be a good movie, but I am afraid it will be somewhat of a let down like The DaVinci Code movie. I always thought that people who said books were better than the movies were crazy. I have since changed my mind. The DaVinci Code and The General's Daughter (Demille) were much better books than movies. I am not saying the movies were bad. I am just saying the books were better.

The answer I would give to the question I prefaced in my first paragraph would be Deception Point. I say this because I knew before things happened in the other who was behind things. Deception Point on the other hand had me constantly guessing who was behind things. I questioned the president (Zach Herney), Senator Sedgewick Sexton, Marjorie Tench (was my best guess) and William Pickering. Pickering was a total shock. A twist that came out of left field.

Anyway, let's hear your thoughts on Dan Browns best book.

The Gate House by Nelson Demille. I want to read this

I am new to the blogging scene, so I'm not real sure how this is going to go. My wife is an expert, so I should be able to ask her if I have any questions. I joked with her that I was going to start blogging to and express what it was like being the widower of a blogger!! However, I am going to blog about things that I find fascinating and important to me.

My first blog is about the book I want to read right now. I am really wanting to buy and read the The Gate House by Nelson Demille. A couple of years after getting married, my FIL introduced me to a few authors. Dan Brown, Brad Thor, and Nelson Demille. I must admit that the first fiction novel I read of my own free will was The DaVinci Code. I loved it. I then set out to read all of Dan Brown's novels. I have read three of the four. I still have not read Digital Fortress.

While I was reading Angels & Deamons, my FIL bought me a copy of Nigth Fall. I was hooked on Demille right from the start especially the character of John Corey. I finished the novel in 3 days. I have since read 11 of Demille's 15 novels. It took me over a year to read The Gold Coast. It was a slow read, at least for me, but I plugged away and not only finished it, I really enjoyed it. This is why I really want to read The Gate House. I am interested to see what happens in the life of John Sutter.
Brad Thor is the other author I really enjoy. Of course, I have really only read these three. Thor's books on Scot Harvath is fast paced, intellectual, and most importantly a page turner! I could go on and on about these books, but I will save that for a latter post.
Who are some of your favorite authors? What book is a must read?
